This article explores the integration of women among volunteer firefighters. Drawing on a theoretical framework focused on commitment and professional identity, it concentrates on the first years of engagement, which are primarily dedicated to following the mandatory initial training. Using a qualitative methodology, the article analyzes the obstacles faced by women at the start of their volunteer firefighter journey, during their initial training, and within the life at the fire station. The results indicate that the difficulties they encounter impact their identity development and the continuation of their commitment. The environment seems to still suffer from a gendered approach to selection.
